Often is it said
That one should never bet the farm
Never go to bed
Without first setting the alarm
Never load the lead
Unless you truly plan to harm
Never let your head
Be ruled beneath another’s charm

One could rightly say
That a request should end with please
That your given days
Should not be driven to appease
Stand for what you may
But hesitate to bend your knees
Never let your way
Become the thing that others seize

True enough it’s told
That in our healing do we cripple
Trying not to fold
Will often mean we’re paying triple
Struggle leaves us old
Our flesh and efforts wearing stipple
Be the stone that rolled
Or be the water made to ripple
