Pathetic

Pathetically I masquerade as
a happy woman
Smiling, listening, responding.
Just as pathetically I
wait day after day for you
For a word, perhaps three
a sign, a show, a glimmer of hope.

Realistically I appear to be
a woman unconcerned
Cold, unfeeling, aloof.
Just as realistically I
listen night after night to you
Fighting myself, denying truth I
feel everything, observe, burn.

Dramatically I pretend to be
a woman of poetry
Emotional, magical, tangible.
Just as dramatically I
write about you day and night
Weaving words, hoping you’ll read
my heart, soul, apologies.

I suppose,
in the end, I’m just
dramatically, realistically, pathetically
…. me.

You can find more sad love poems over at Caribou Crossings, if that’s your thing. I write short stories, too, and a little erotica here and there.

      1. I’ve thought it would be fun to release an autobiography that is just a collection of self-loathing poems. This reminded me of that.

      3. I figure each person I ever wronged would want to buy a copy so they can say “See, told ya, he’s a jerk.” And with the sheer amount of people that is, it’ll be an instant best seller.

Ha! Yeah right. I beg to differ, but I *am* a different kind of person….
I’d buy your book. Although not for reasons previously mentioned.

It shows just how beautiful a person you are. You’ve given us all that it takes to be human in this very well written piece.
